Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Only For Climbing ("we", "us", the "app") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application. By using the app you agree to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The short version: we collect the account info and content you give us to run a climbing community app. We do not sell your data, we do not use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and there are no advertising or third-party analytics trackers in the app. You can delete your account — and everything in it — at any time.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address and a display name and handle. You may optionally add a profile photo, bio, pronouns, city, and peak grade. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address you choose to share with us through that provider. Passwords for email sign-in are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored by us in readable form.

Content you create

We store the content you choose to post: logged sends (climbs), photos, videos, stories, captions, comments, direct and group messages, reactions, events, and groups. You control who can see most content through per-item visibility settings (public, crew/followers, or only you).

Identifiers and usage

We assign your account a user ID. If you enable notifications, we store a push notification token for your device so we can deliver alerts (for example, when someone likes your send or messages you). We also store basic interactions such as likes, saves, follows, and RSVPs to make the app work.

Location

If you allow it, the app uses your device's location only on your device to sort climbing gyms by distance ("gyms near me"). Your precise location is not sent to our servers, is not stored, and is not linked to your identity. The app works without location — you can decline the permission and browse gyms by city instead.

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and operate your account and profile.
To show your content to the audiences you choose, and to power the feed, stories, chat, events, and gym discovery.
To send notifications you've enabled.
To keep the community safe — operating reporting, blocking, and content moderation.
To respond to your support requests and enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines.

3. How Your Information Is Shared

We share information only as needed to run the app:

With other users, according to the visibility settings you choose for each piece of content.
With service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (hosted in the United States).
- Mux — video upload, processing, and streaming.
- Apple and Google — only if you use Sign in with Apple / Google.
- Expo / Apple / Google push services — to deliver notifications you've enabled.
For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect the safety of users.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites. The app contains no advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics trackers.

4. Data Retention & Account Deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your profile, posts, sends, comments, messages, and uploaded media (including photos, videos, and stories), and revokes your Sign in with Apple token where applicable. Some information may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.

5. Your Choices & Rights

Visibility controls — set your profile and content to public, crew, or only you.
Location — grant or deny the location permission at any time in your device settings.
Notifications — turn push notifications on or off in the app and in device settings.
Safety — block or report any user, post, comment, or story.
Access, correction & deletion — edit or delete your content in the app, or contact us to request a copy or deletion of your data.

6. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with our hosting provider under access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

7. Children's Privacy

Only For Climbing is rated 17+ and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users

We operate the app from, and process data in, the United States. By using the app you understand your information may be processed in the United States.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may also be communicated in the app.
